Thank you for contacting HALO (Havanese Angel League Organization). Our goal is to adopt Havanese into safe and loving homes where they will be treated as part of the family. We have placed fifty dogs into homes in 2004 and 33 in 2005. Our Havanese are matched to the best suited home for him/her. We do NOT operate on a "first come first serve" basis.
We put the welfare of our Havanese before anything else and therefore have a process we follow to be sure we get the right home for the rescued Havanese. Listed below are some guidelines to familiarize you with our adoption process: 1) You must be 25 years old or older. This is the legal age to enter into a legal and binding contract. 2) Please fill out and submit an Adoption Application so we can learn more about you and your family. This must be printed out, completed, signed and mailed to HALO, P.O. Box 367, Manteno, IL. 60950 along with a $25 check payable to HALO for processing costs. We are a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. 3) When your application is received, a board member will interview you. Another HALO volunteer will call your references and veterinarian and speak with them; a determination will be made by our Board of Directors as to whether to continue the application process. If we decide to continue, a home visit will be scheduled if possible. You should be notified within two weeks if your application is approved or not. 4) Visiting your home is very important so we know the Havanese will be living in a safe and suitable environment. The Havanese is an expensive breed and unfortunately there are people who will prey on them for money. We do everything possible to insure the dog is placed in a safe and loving home. 5) When we find a rescued Hav for your family, you will be called. We'll give you an explanation as to the temperament of the dog and why we feel he/she is the right one for you. Arrangements will then be made for you to contact the foster family and meet the dog. We do not ship dogs to their new families. You will have to travel to where that dog is being fostered which is either Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, Kansas City or Indianapolis. If everything goes well and you, your family and the dog like each other, the adoption takes place and a signed contract of adoption is necessary. In this contract you will agree that, if for any reason you decide not to keep your rescue, the rescue will come back to us. We do not give refunds. 6) Adoption Fee: Our adoption fee is $550 which includes a well-puppy visit; all necessary age-appropriate vaccinations (including rabies vaccination); heartworm test; bordatella shot; negative brucellosis test; and spay/neuter if over six months of age. If the pup is under six months of age, we will require a $150 spay/neuter deposit that will be refunded if the procedure is completed within a stated period of time. The remainder of the adoption fee, if any, is used to help rescue other Havanese in need. You can be confident that 100% of our fees go toward the rescue efforts of our Havanese!

Our volunteers are a small, dedicated group of people who spend countless hours working for the good of rescued Havanese. They spend their own money and time making phone calls; traveling to auctions in other states which entails hotel rooms, food, gas; doing home visits; paying and maintaining this web site - all of this so that every dollar given to HALO is kept for our rescues. You can see our Havs now looking for homes on petfinders.com. Thank you for contacting HALO. We wish you good luck in your search for a new companion to enrich your life. Hopefully a Havanese will be part of your life! |
