Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone's New Year is off to a great start!
For those of us in the colder climates, if we just wait out a few
more weeks then hopefully our days will be longer and warmer. For
those of you that enjoy the sun and warm weather all year round, I
hope you have been thinking of us with sympathy.
The year 2007 ended with a total of 95 rescues coming
safely "home" to HALO. All are in their forever homes and are being
loved and pampered as all pups should be. Although this is only the
beginning of March we have rescued 22 doggies this year already.
Here are just a few of our new HALO family members.

For those of you who want to "belong" and do something
rewarding with your free time, here we are to offer you the
opportunity to help.
We are looking for some people who would like to help
us with the interviewing process. Up until now we (Pat, Cindy and
Kathi) have done all the interviews ourselves because we wanted to
personally know each and every adopter. But now that HALO has grown
it has gotten to be a little more than we can handle ourselves in
addition to our regular jobs (and still have some kind of life
outside of HALO). Each application involves 5 phones calls: the
applicant, 3 references and the vet. We also do home visits
whenever possible. That means that last year we made 475 calls and
that is just to the approved applicants. There are many others that
we had to screen.
If you are the type of person that likes to talk to
people, feels strongly about rescue and is willing to give us some
of your time, then we need you! We use an
interview form of questions and if you are thinking about doing
this we can email a copy to you.
Remember that feeling when you first held your Havanese
for the first time, that feeling that you knew you were doing the
absolutely right thing for you or your family? Well, volunteering
with HALO could give you that same experience. As we are growing,
we need help. And if interacting with people is what you do well,
think about helping us now. To be honest, Cindy, Pat and I are
getting a little weary and would love to be able to train others to
keep this group going for many, many years. So think about it and
if you'd like to e-mail and we can discuss it further, we'd be only
too glad to speak with you. Just because you inquire does not mean
that we will sign you up for the next five years! In fact, we'd
really like to talk to those who are interested and it just might be
something you've been wanting to do but didn't exactly know it until
now.
Thank you!
Cindy, Pat and Kathi
