Hi from HALO. It’s been awhile since we’ve written
to you and we didn’t want you to think we vanished or went
out of business!
This summer was probably a busy one for you as it
was for us. Since HALO is composed of all volunteers,
sometimes our personal lives get in the way of our “HALO
lives”. Our board members went through a variety of
upsetting experiences that ran the gamut of things that
occur to each of us such as: selling a home, building a new
home, breaking into temporary home, death in family, illness
of a spouse, change in life style of spouse. All of the
above happened to Kathi, Cindy and Pat and just as one of us
was experiencing and getting over one thing, another person
started experiencing a challenge. But fall is here and
hopefully with the changing of the season and the beautiful
coloration of leaves, our personal lives are settling into a
sensible pattern once again.
That did not prevent HALO from increasing the number
of Havanese with little halos hovering over their furry
heads. To date 63 Havs have found their way into our arms
and hearts from the first ever Havanese born in freedom to
12-year old Phoebe, an owner surrender now living with her
new mom and going for boat rides every day. This summer the
following pups were acquired: Mary, Manny, Merlin, Ned,
Ninja, Nora, Ohmy, Okay, Ole, Oodles, Oopsie and Owen. Ten
more pups will be coming under our wings next week – soon to
be called the “Pack of Ps.”
Our 3rd annual HALO picnic was a great success,
hosted again by Carole and Bob Bough in Michigan. New and
familiar faces were seen – human as well as Havanese plus a
few other breeds which are always welcome. A pet psychic
joined us and brought lots of useful and surprising
information to some attendees. The day was gorgeous, the
food fantastic, and as usual the company could not be beat –
lots of barking and laughter all day long.
We will continue to keep you informed of what we’re
doing and how things are going. If you are considering
helping us by either fostering, quarantining, doing fund
raising, whatever, please contact us. HALO has been blessed
to have such a dedicated, selfless, caring group of foster
homes, but let’s face it – we all could use a break from
time to time. So if that’s something you’d be interested in
pursuing, we’d be glad to explain how it works and see if
you’d be interested.
We wish you all a wonderful fall that lasts well
into December and hopefully winter will be over by
mid-February! Keep us in your thoughts and good wishes;
there are lots of Havanese out in the world to be rescued
and we’re only as good and strong as our volunteers and
supporters. Look at your Havanese or two or three, give
them a hug and tell them how much they are loved.
Best wishes to you all from Kathi, Cindy and Pat
