Puppy mill dogs have no
human contact other than while they receive their food and occasionally if
their cages are cleaned. Cages are usually stacked on top of each other
and as a result the urine and feces drip onto the dogs below.'

A
puppy mill is a commercial breeder who breeds dogs purely for profit. They
are distinguished by their cramped, crude, filthy conditions and constant
breeding practices. Sometimes this constant breeding results in unhealthy
and genetically defective dogs. Female dogs are bred from the first time
they go into heat and are bred every cycle. They become so worn down that
their puppies are often born dead because they have not been able to
provide the unborn puppy with the needed nutrition.
Often times a
mill will sell some of their dogs to other mills and/or breeders at
auction. Only breeders and mills are usually invited to attend these
auctions. When these auctions occur, volunteers of HALO have posed as
breeders to purchase and free the Havanese from a lifetime of continual
torture and isolation of living in a puppy mill cage
Where are the puppy
mills?
Our View
There are two
opinions about this - either allow them to be sold to other mills and breeders
or rescue them. Our organization believes it is important to free our breed.
Allowing them to be sold from one mill to another supports the profit motives of
the mills and the dogs continue to suffer and die. Rescuing from and providing
loving homes releases the dogs from the puppy mill cycle If we do not rescue
these Havanese, they will be sold to another mill, and they will continue to
live and breed in cramped, crude and filthy conditions. Our way - the Havanese
no longer suffers and is given a loving home forever
Our Goal
By educating
and informing the public about the commercial dog industry, we hope that
one day we will no longer see a market for puppies sold in pet stores.
Only then will the suffering that is now present in puppy mills cease.
