Update February 2008 email on (known to HALO as Emmitt)

I can't believe that it was just about this time last year that Ed and I were with you.  I thought you might want to a little up date on Paco's adjustments to our family.

He is as cute as ever.  He weighs about nine pounds and is adorable when he does his laps around the house at 90 miles an hour.  This year I read Cesar Millan's book, Cesar's Way and Paco and I now take long walks on every nice day that we have.  As one of my neighbor's (who loves Ceasar) said, "Paco has become an athlete."

I love the special bond we have now that I've assured him that I am "pack leader."  He is wonderful with all eight of our grandchildren.  However he did run an hide after a while during Ed's 70th birthday party in January.  We had eight adults and eight children, ranging in age from 13 years to 23 months old, in our house for dinner and a party.

Every evening Paco comes with me upstairs and sleeps on my bed while I knit and watch TV.  Then when Ed comes to bed, he cuddles up to Ed all night.  In the morning he waits to see my eyes open and then he climbs all over me to get up.  He is very good.  He won't climb on me until he sees the white of my eyes!

Ed needs a little bit of training.  He's a real softy.  He loves to give Paco treats, while I only give him one when he's done something good.  Needless to say, Ed is a sucker when Paco comes around the table while we're eating.  He doesn't give him bad things, but how many dogs do you know like to eat sweet potatoes, green beans, and broccoli?

I am still hoping Paco and I can go for training so that we can visit with people in nursing homes, hospitals, and/or children in schools.  He's really gotten much braver since you saw him last.  Actually, he has developed a fan club of my neighbors who he meets on our walks.  When my grandchildren know Ed or I are coming to visit, all they want to know, "Is Paco coming?"

I know you are a very busy person and that it isn't polite to write more than three paragraphs.  However, as a foster parent, I'm sure you're wondering if everything is going well for him.  It is!  Thank you for all that you and your organization did for him and for us.

Sincerely,
Gerry
